The Possible Dreams Auction on Martha's Vineyard is one of the world's best known fundraising events.
An annual event, it raises funds for Martha’s Vineyard Community Services to ensure continued services and support for all clients regardless of their ability to pay. It is known to attract the support of the celebrities that make the Island their summer home, and donations have been received by such luminaries as Walter Cronkite, Mike Wallace, Carly Simon, Livingston Taylor, Larry David, Ted Danson and many, many more.
"Possible Dreams" are items that can often not be purchased any other way. Carly Simon auctioned off a visit from her to the winner's home, with a song sung, and peanut butter sandwich delivered. Walter Cronkite, a regular at the auction during his many summers on the the Vineyard, was known to offer a ride on his sailboat, and lunch at his home overlooking Edgartown Harbor.
David Schock offered for the top bidder to be the model for his next painting, and with a winning bid of $3,500.00, was happy to be able to support the year-round island community on Martha's Vineyard.
